When Lisa Seifert decided to move her immigration law office to Olympia’s historic Security Building, it was a return home to her professional roots. Seifert opened her first office there back in 1989, and now 35 years later Seifert Law Offices operates once again from the building in the downtown hub of Olympia on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Washington Street.
Seifert is settled into the firm’s new office in suite 401, near the suite where she began. “I started out in the Security Building,” she says. “My first suite was 503, then 404 for many years. I am really happy here.”
The Seifert Law Offices provide legal services in-person and remotely. Services include consultations, advice and representation on immigration and nationality law and related matters including citizenship, family immigration, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, crime victims’ issues concerning U-Visa and the Violence Against Women Act, waivers and parole.
Seifert says most of her clients live in, or have some connections to, Thurston, Lewis, Mason and Grays Harbor counties, although she has served clients from around the world. “Our clients have come from all over the place, from other countries and from other states,” she says.
Although it’s moved into a historic building constructed in 1926, the firm’s processes to help its clients of today are quite modern. While some clients need to come into the firm’s Security Building office for appointments, Seifert says her multilingual and culturally diverse staff provides most clients with legal services by Zoom, email and telephone. The in-office team members include Seifert and Jennifer Miller, remote staff are Gian Vindigni, Micaela Gonzalez and Beatriz Orellana.
It was a full circle moment for Seifert to return to the Security Building in December 2024. In fact, during the move, Seifert found some of her former building letterhead and correspondence from her early days when her legal career began in the historic building.
At five stories tall, the Security Building was Olympia’s first “skyscraper” and is listed in the National Register’s Olympia Downtown Historic District. Named for the early tenant Security Bank, the building was constructed on fill over tidal marshes and rests on hundreds of pilings. The local Historic Property Inventory describes that the building was designed by A. H. Albertson of Seattle and developed by noted local engineer E.M. Chandler in the “Sullivanesque style” and “boasted only the most prestigious of tenants.”
The Olympia Historical Society and Bigelow House Museum say that the structure was Olympia’s “premier office building” and “features elaborate rosettes and pineapple motifs, a variety of rare stones, and mahogany woodwork throughout.” Material used in the building comes from all over the world and includes the entry’s mother-of-pearl columns of granite found only at one quarry in British Columbia, pink marble imported from Italy, Napoleon Grey marble from France, and Belgian Black marble from Belgium. And now Seifert and her team are working from this long-time historic professional center that is also in the heart of the busy arts and theater district in downtown Olympia.
Moving office locations in Olympia has not changed the services the law firm offers. For more than three decades Seifert Law Offices has assisted thousands of people in becoming permanent U.S. residents, come to the U.S. to teach or perform music, advance their education, work and pursue other opportunities.
Examples of the firm’s legal work include preparing and filing petitions and documents with government agencies and submitting administrative appeals and motions. The firm’s website provides more details about services offered in multiple areas of immigration law, clients’ experiences, an FAQ about when to consider retaining an immigration lawyer, what to expect in a consultation, consultation intake forms in English and Spanish, an immigration law blog and other helpful information.
“If people want to talk to me, and understand more about their case, they can call the office number and check the website,” Seifert says. Among other recognitions and participation in immigration organizations, Seifert is a member of American Immigration Lawyers Association.
While the office website is being updated to reflect the new office location in the Security Building, the contact form to request a consultation on immigration law and related matters remains the same, as does the office phone number and email address. If you need assistance on immigration and related matters or want to schedule a consultation, reach out to us at Seifert Law Offices. -- 360-357-7087 or info@seifertlaw.com
